First age-defying high-precision skin care

In 1938, company founder Mila Opitz-Altherr started producing cosmetics after finding nothing suitable for her skin problems at the time. Working closely with a dermatologist, Mila created an age-defying hormone cream that marked the first in a line of high-precision skincare that provides an escape to freedom.

Founding of company Milopa

The company Milopa is founded officially: it is entered into the commercial register and the factory is built.

Start of export business

The innovative nature of Milopa products yields promising results: customers in and outside of Switzerland begin to recognise Milopa as a pioneer in the cosmetics industry.

1958


Major fire hits company hard

On 6th March, 1958, a big fire destroys the entire office floor of Milopa, rendering the research laboratory practically useless. Without losing faith, Milopa employees continue working over the next three months using crates and provisional arrangements.

Division of the company

Due to confusion surrounding the similarity of the name Milopa and baby food manufacturer Milupa, Milopa is renamed and split into two branches: the parent company M. Opitz & Co. AG, and the commercial branch Mila d'Opiz AG.

Laboratories modernized

The move to new facilities at Haggenstrasses 40 in St. Gallen is a huge milestone - new infrastructure and modern laboratories provide rapid advances in microbiology and analytics.

ISO certification

M. Opitz & Co AG is the first Swiss cosmetics company to be ISO-certified, receiving a quality certificate ISO 9001. The company already complies with standards introduced by the EU ahead of its time.

Founding of ARCOS

The cosmetics academy ARCOS (Academy for Cosmetology) is founded, introducing the first education and training centre run by Mila D'opiz. The diploma achieved by completing education at the institution enjoys the highest level of recognition worldwide.

Caroline Studer joins the company

Third generation Opitz family member Caroline Studer joins the company in marketing and sales, eventually moving on to become the current CEO and owner of the company.

75th Jubilee of Mila d‘Opiz Swiss Beauty

The R&D team created a product "The Skin Whisperer" that achieved the ultimate goal in skincare: everlasting beauty. Mila d‘Opiz has succeeded to combine high-tech anti-aging formulas with the greatest legendary beauty dream of mankind.

Awards & Innovations

Under the leadership of Caroline Studer, The Skin Whisperer Cream wins Most Innovative Cosmetic Product at the 2014 BSB European Innovation Awards - also known as the Beauty Oscars. In 2016, the "Phyto DS Forbidden Serum" is produced. Furthermore, the company wins another award: the "European SPA & Health Award" for the most innovative cosmetics product in Switzerland. On Mila d'Opiz's 80th anniversary, The Skin Whisperer Eye Cream wins the Most Innovative Cosmetic Product in the BSB Innovation ceremony held in Amsterdam.
